"LEARN TO MOVE OVER"

Scripture: John 1:29

"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God...."

Recently I had to drive to a meeting and I took the same route each day. The meeting started early each morning and traffic was bad. I distinctly remember the first day as I was driving in the left lane and the right lane was about to end due to construction ahead. Everyone in the right lane had to merge left. A concrete truck driver speeding in the right lane started blowing his horn insisting that he be allowed to merge. Fortunately I was able to slow down as he aggressively forced his way in. The second day I approached the same spot and traffic had stopped. A lady to the right looked over into my lane and I motioned for her to proceed.

After allowing the lady to get in front of me, I remembered what the concrete truck had done the previous morning and took it as a teaching moment. As a leader, I know the challenge of merging people together. Even though I occupied the lane, others needed to use the same lane. We could share the lane but we couldn't share the position.

When John the Baptist stood in the Jordan he saw another person getting ready to merge into the lane. John knew that it was time for him to move over and get behind. He had been the baptizer but now Jesus was on the scene. John was willing to move over and he started following Him. Don't fight for a position. Be humble enough to move over when necessary.
