"BUT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING"

Scripture: James 4:17

We have all said it and we have had it said to us, "but I didn't do anything."  We say it as a plea of our innocence when in actuality it may often be a confession of our guilt.  The verse reads, "therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

Doing nothing is a sin when we know and are capable of doing good. We live in a world of what appears to be hopelessness at its apex. But hopelessness is the consequence of those who know to do good but opt to do nothing.  President Barak Obama said "The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don't wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you fill yourself with hope."

I distinctly remember my younger brother and I being chastised by my father on one occasion. My younger brother actually did wrong but he whipped us both. During the whipping I remember screaming, "but I didn't do anything."  He simply responded, "that's why I whipped you because you know better and you didn't stop him."

With all the tragedies that our world faces the sad truth is that many will be guilty of saying "but I didn't do anything."  Make a commitment that this will not be your plea.
