"BETTER THAN A MIRROR"

Scripture: Proverbs 27:19

Proverbs 27:19 in the Living Bible reads as follows: "A mirror reflects a man's face, but what he is really like is shown by the kind of friends he chooses."

If you are reading this devotional and you have been out of bed longer than an hour, it is likely that you have examined yourself in a mirror. As you looked at yourself there were some things that you liked and other things that you may not have been quite as pleased with. If the mirror showed you something that you could fix then you did so almost immediately. Solomon suggests that the friends we chose are better than a mirror at revealing who we are. A mirror shows our face but friends show our character and impact our destiny. A mirror shows our present but friends show our future.

Often when Scriptures like this are brought to our attention we start to evaluate how many negative influences we have around us. We start deleting people from our contacts and severing relationships. Rather than taking this time to concentrate on the negatives, use it as an opportunity to thank God for the positive influences in your life. Among those negatives, you have also chosen some great friends and today would be a good day to let them know how much you appreciate them.

As a recipient of this devotional you are a friend that I have chosen. Thank you for making me who I am. You are better than a mirror to me.
