"THE BREAD OF LIFE"

Scripture: John 6:48

When the Jews eat the Passover meal this week they will eat unleavened bread called "matzah". The matzah is baked like no other bread. It is very labor intensive. It is made of grain and water dough without fermentation. The dough has to be made rapidly and baked at extremely high temperature. After it has been properly kneaded, a special rolling pin is used which puts clearly recognizable stripes and holes into the dough which they call perforating.

When the bread is finished it is a piece of unleavened bread that has been striped, pierced, and baked at high temperature. At the Passover meal, the bread will be placed in a matzah pouch with 2 other pieces of bread. The middle piece will be removed and then broken. They will then hide the broken piece and allow a child to search and find it. The child who finds it will receive a gift for finding the bread.

At every annual Passover celebration the Jews have in their possession a piece of unleavened bread. Leaven represents sin so naturally that which is unleavened represents that which is sinless. They will partake of unleavened bread that has been baked like no other bread. They will partake of bread that has been removed as the second piece among two other pieces, striped, pierced, broken, hidden, and then found.

Jesus said "I am the bread of life."
