"BUILT TO LAST"

Scriptures: Isaiah 54:11

"And lay the foundations with sapphire."

I was reading on line where a homeowner noticed cracks in the walls of his new $500,000 home. He also noticed that the concrete driveway was bursting in several places. He hired contractors to see what was going on and after digging in the backyard they pulled up backhoe buckets of trash confirming their suspicions. The home had been built on a landfill.

I can't begin to tell you how often I see people building their lives on landfills. I see people building marriages on emotions, youthfulness, good looks, etc. and it grieves me as I watch and wonder how long before the backhoe will have to be called in and excavate huge buckets of trash. We build careers on whims. We build our personal lives on the envious views that we have of people down the street or in the next cubicle. Eventually the walls of these marriages, careers, and personal lives start to crack and we discover the landfill under our feet.

Isaiah admonishes us to lay the foundation with sapphire. Sapphire is a very precious stone and in biblical symbolism, it is the stone of wisdom. When we don't have wisdom in a particular area, consult someone who does. It does not matter how beautiful the structure may be if the foundation is not strong enough to hold it up. Whatever you build from this moment of your life, make sure you build it to last.
