"WORK ON BELIEVING"

Scripture: Mark 9:24

"And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."
When we read our English translations of the Bible we cannot clearly differentiate between faith and belief. We see the two words as synonyms and think because we have one (faith), we likewise have the other (believe). However, in the Greek text the same word is presented in two different forms. The word "faith" is presented in scripture as a noun (pistis). The word "believe" is presented as a verb (Pisteuo). We can actually have faith and not believe. In essence, believing is when we put action to our faith.
The father in this text has faith but he struggles to believe. We could better understand this father if we were to reword the passage "Lord, I have faith; help me to believe." Are there things that you have faith for but yet struggle to believe? Maybe you have faith for better relationships. Work on believing by doing what you have to do to make them better. Maybe you have faith for a financial breakthrough. Work on believing by cutting up credit cards. Faith to improve your health is good but work on believing by changing your diet and being diligent with exercise.
"Do not ask God to guide your footsteps if you are not willing to move your feet." Faith is much easier than believing. Faith requires the heart and mind. Believing requires the hands and feet. Work on believing.
