"TRY SOMETHING NEW"

Scripture:  Isaiah 43:19

I was impressed when I heard that Chick-fil-A has decided to remove coleslaw from its menu and replace it with a kale broccolini salad. My impression has nothing to do with my likes or dislikes of coleslaw or my interest in trying the new kale broccolini salad. I was impressed because a company like Chick-fil-A with proven success yet has the boldness to step out of its comfort zone and try something new. They could have continued to be successful with the traditional coleslaw but they have demonstrated a principle of life; "Life is about taking chances, trying new things, having fun, making mistakes and learning from them."

The Bible opens and closes with God doing new things. In the Genesis creation story He takes nothing and creates something new from it. In Revelation the heaven and earth as we know it are brought to an end by a new heaven and new earth coming into existence. Here in Isaiah 43:19 He clearly announces; "I am doing a new thing."

It's a new year. Are you willing to try anything new? Ralph Waldo Emerson said "Do not be timid or squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment." The common question we ask when we consider something new is what if it does not work. Ask a different question, what if it does. "Never be afraid to try something new, because life gets boring when you stay within the limits of what you already knew."
