Job 17:9
The righteous keep moving forward,.....................
Have you ever watched a person walking on a tightrope from one high place to another? Have you noticed how unbalanced they are? Their arms are rarely, if ever at the same level. They are constantly shifting, and making adjustments. They are constantly raising one arm and lowering the other. Have you ever watched people on balance beams? They have different techniques than the tightrope walkers but you will still see them shift and adjust.
It is unrealistic to live life expecting constant balance. People who have jobs, school, families, church, civic responsibilities, etc., are often made to feel guilty because one aspect of their life seems to get more attention than the other. If that is constantly the cause, then yes there is a problem. If the job constantly gets more attention than the family, then it's time to make some adjustments.
Life has a way of adding things to and subtracting things from our "to do" list. Yesterday's perfect plan can be interrupted by today's sudden circumstance. When the balance you planned yesterday meets the interruption of today, success will demand that you shift and adjust. The main thing is that you don't fall off the rope or the beam and that you keep moving forward.
The American motivational speaker Eric Thomas poses this challenge. He says "Stop making excuses and start making adjustments." You don't have to neglect one thing to give attention to another but you do have to make adjustments and keep moving forward.
