"EMOTIONAL HYGIENE"

Romans 12:2
"....... but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind ......"

I woke up this morning and practiced my usual routine which involved a shower, shave, brushing of teeth, coming hair, etc.  Hopefully you did something similar because the body is exposed to things that demand physical hygiene. We even buy deodorants, mouth wash, colognes or perfumes and other products to enhance our physical hygiene.  If the dirt, germs, and bacteria were not removed from our bodies on a consistent basis it would be difficult for anyone to be around us.

Have you ever considered how much contamination enters your mind and emotions daily?  Failure, disappointments, rejections, loneliness, criticism, and ungodly thoughts are just a few of the things that enter our emotions consistently.  Do you have a daily routine that addresses your emotional hygiene to the same degree that you attend to your physical hygiene?  I advocate that your emotional hygiene is significantly more important than the physical.

Paul admonished the Romans to be "transformed by the renewing of (their) mind".  To renew the mind means to cleanse, restore, or spruce up.  Prayer, reading the Word, forgiveness, positive language, meditating, being thankful, and giving God praise are some suggestions for emotional hygiene. Going to Church on Sunday is good but certainly not enough. Would you be comfortably bathing your physical body once-a-week?

Zig Ziglar said "We all need a daily check up from the neck up to avoid stinking thinking which ultimately leads to hardening of the attitudes."  Practice emotional hygiene.
