Proverbs 29:25
"It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe." (GNT)
For a few weeks my wife had been telling me that the air pressure light was on in her car. I took the car and had the air checked, the light would go off but then in a few days it would be back on again. This process went on for several days only to discover that the problem was not the air pressure. The sensor that detects the air pressure had malfunctioned causing the light to come on even though the tires were fine.
Sometimes we listen too much to other people's opinions of us. We check ourselves and even make efforts to change things about us based solely on what others are saying. We conclude that something must be wrong with us because they keep telling us that it is. Could it be that we are ok but the way they "sensor" us is off?
Solomon said "it is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you..." I had taken the message on the dashboard of the car to be a fact. It said the tire pressure was low on more than one occasion so it most certainly was factual. Kylie Francis says "Opinions aren't facts. Stop worrying about what people think of you."
David wrote "... I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." (Psalm 129:14). When you "know it right well", the sensor is secondary. Sometimes the problem may be their opinion.
