"TURN YOUR LIGHT ON" I
While riding down the interstate the other day around 6:00 pm, I looked in my driver side mirror and noticed the car coming up beside me did not have their headlights on. During this time of year it gets dark around 5:30. It was a rainy evening and darkness had set in early. By 6:00 it was really dark. I was able to get the drivers attention and yelled out "turn your lights on." He was thankful and gave a look of disbelief. The passenger in the car circled her finger around her ear to imply that the driver was mentally challenged.
I wonder how long this man had been driving in the dark ignorant of the fact that his lights were not on. In that moment I received a revelation of the condition of God's church. Could it be that we have become like this driver and have travelled so long in the dark that we don't even know that our lights are not on? As unpopular as it may be, living right is still God's desire for man. Charles Spurgeon said "whatever call a man may pretend to have, if he has not been called to holiness he has certainly not been called to ministry." Are we leaving the parking lots of our churches only to drive through dark communities with our lights off? Paul writes that we are in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation but we have been called to shine as lights in the world. Turn your light on.
