"Rebound"

Scripture: 1 Samuel 30:8

The Amalekites had invaded David's town of Ziklag and kidnapped David's family.  David was greatly distressed because of what the Amalekites had done and he goes to God and asks, "Shall I pursue after this troop?  Shall I overtake them?"  He was basically asking God if the loss was final or was there the possibility of recovery.  God responded to David and said, "Pursue, for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all."

In high school I was one of the starting five on our basketball team. I played forward and sometimes I moved down low and played center.  I was not a starter because of my high shooting and scoring ability.  I was a starter because of my ability to rebound.  While scoring is essential, avoiding turnovers and rebounding are also vital aspects of winning.

The Hebrew word for recover in 1 Samuel 30:8 means "to snatch away."  The image that the word presents is of one who goes after a thing with determination.  They grab it and then, with force, they snatch it much like my basketball coach taught me to do.  "Snatch it and secure it" were the words he would use.

Life is a series of missed shots. We do not accomplish success with every try. Learn the art of rebounding.  Missed shots do not necessarily mean that you lose the game.  If you miss and then rebound, you have grace to score again. Come on...box out the opponent this time and go up for the rebound. God has your MVP trophy waiting for you at the banquet.
