"ARE YOU HUNGRY?"

Scripture: Proverbs 15:14

"A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash." (NLT)

While reading some articles on the internet, I ran across this from the Barna group: "Not quite half of the public can identify the names of the first four books of the New Testament, known as the Gospels. A large share believes that John the Baptist was one of Jesus' apostles. Almost half contend that one of the Bible's teachings is that God helps those who help themselves. Only a minority are able to name the first five books of the Bible. Three-quarters of all adults incorrectly believe the Bible is available in all of the world's languages. Millions of Americans believe that Joan of Arc was Noah's wife and one out of seven believes Sodom and Gomorrah were married." (George Barna, America at the Crossroads).

There are numerous passages in the Bible that tell us to seek knowledge. A familiar one is Hosea 4:6, "My people perish for the lack of knowledge". Solomon said that "A wise person is hungry for knowledge while the fool feeds on trash." Is the absence of biblical knowledge due to a lack of hunger or have we conditioned our taste buds to be satisfied with a trash diet? Have we sugar coated the gospel for so long that now the true message is too bitter for our digestive systems?

Paul did say that "the time will come when men will not endure sound doctrine". (2 Timothy 4:3). Guard yourself against this epidemic and always stay hungry for knowledge.
