"MELTED BY THE SON"

Scripture: Psalm 147;16-18

"He sends the snow that is white like wool; he spreads the frost that is white like ashes....... Who can withstand the cold wind he sends? He then orders it all to melt; he breathes on it and the water flows." (KJV)

I live in metropolitan Atlanta and it snowed Tuesday night. The temperature was in the twenties and it did not get above freezing the entire next day. Due to the low temperatures, the snow did not melt except in areas that were open to the sun. I drove out during the afternoon and there were icy patches in the shady spots. Areas that had received the heat of the sun had melted.

Snowy days remind me of life's struggles. The writer of Psalm 147 commanded the readers to praise the Lord for several reasons. One reason is because He sends the snow and the frost. The wind that He sends is sometimes too cold to withstand. But then the writer says that the same God who sent those frigid conditions orders that they melt by breathing on them and then the water flows.

Contrary to popular beliefs, it is God who sends challenges into our lives in the same way that He sends snow and cold wind. The challenges are the forerunners for the breath that He will breathe. Just as exposure to the sun melted the snow and ice on the streets, our exposure to the Son of God and His life giving breath can cause our cold and frigid struggles to melt. Stop slipping and sliding through your struggles. Praise God and know that soon His breath will cause things to melt and the water will flow.
