"SERVE"

Mark 10:45
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,..........."

I recently celebrated another birthday. My biological and church family, relatives and friends gathered at a local park to celebrate the occasion. Children and parents were swimming in the pool; horseshoes were being tossed; music blasted; and the saints even participated in line dances like the wobble, shuffle and the cha-cha slide. We dined scrupulously on ribs, chicken,
hamburgers, hotdogs, watermelon, cake, ice cream, and other deserts too numerous to name.

At a particular point during the celebration I was carrying a tray of ribs asking the attendees if they would like some. Someone asked "why are you serving at your own party." I responded "it's just what I do" and another Church member replied, "He's a real leader." Within a few minutes, I noticed that someone else had gone down to the bar-b-que grill, grabbed a pan of ribs and was walking through the crowd asking if anybody would like to have some. A leader was being developed by observing and then practicing the art of serving.

Servanthood is the DNA of leadership. If a person is too big to serve others then he is too little to lead them. Todd Stocker said "Servant leadership is an oxymoron. All true leadership is servanthood." Show me a person that has a desire to lead but does not have a willingness to serve and I will show you a dictator in the making. "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve". Serve!!!
